Dr. Irani is a General Surgeon, specializing in Bariatric Surgery and Surgical Oncology. He has been in practice in Bakersfield, CA since 1991, after graduating from the University of Sydney in Australia and completing a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami. He is a board certified General Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

Since moving to Bakersfield to work in private practice, Dr. Irani has been involved in the Surgery Residency program at Kern Medical Center and held the position of Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of California San Diego for eight years. Dr. Irani has worked tirelessly to serve the community and provide the highest quality of care to his patients.

Dr. Irani is the only trained Surgical Oncologist in Kern County, specializing in breast and colon cancer, and has built an outstanding reputation in his practice of General and Oncologic surgery. After completing additional, rigorous training in Bariatric (weight loss) surgery, he became a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons.

In addition to founding Bakersfield Surgical Associates in 2000, Dr. Irani is the founder and director of the Bariatric programs at San Joaquin Community Hospital and Mercy Hospital. His proficiency in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgical techniques enables him to provide multiple weight loss solutions to patients in these programs. 

Dr. Irani is currently the Chief of Surgery at San Joaquin Community Hospital and has served as Chief twice at Mercy Hospital and once at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Garcia enjoys all aspects of surgical care and is extremely interested in providing minimally invasive services. Dr. Garcia was not only born at Loma Linda University Medical Center, but also completed his medical degree there in 1998. Dr. Garcia has been practicing surgery in Bakersfield for over 10 years.

Medicine has been in Dr. Garcia's blood as his father, sister and multiple family members are also physicians. Dr. Garcia enjoys spending time with his wife, a local pediatrician, and their chocolate labrador retriever. His hobbies include traveling and outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and skiing. Dr. Garcia looks forward to providing excellent care for his patients.

Cyrus Moon, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Moon was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He moved to Houston, Texas for high school. He then went on to receive his Bachelors of Science degree in biomedical engineering and computer science at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Towards the end of undergraduate school Dr. Moon made the decision to pursue a career in medicine, which would allow for a career involving science as well as direct interaction and service to others. He went on to pursue his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Moon completed his surgical residency at the University of California San Francisco, Fresno program. During residency he has found particular interest in the techniques of minimally invasive surgery as well as the benefits that it offered for surgical patients, in terms of faster recovery and decreased pain, discomfort and morbidity.

Dr. Moon therefore went on to complete a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at UCSF Fresno, with mentors that are world renowned in the field of bariatric surgery. He has been practicing surgery in the Central Valley ever since completion of his training in 2013; first in Delano where he is still Bariatric Surgical Director, and now in Bakersfield since the fall of 2016. He is currently one of the only fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons practicing in Kern County.
