Dr. Irani is a General Surgeon/ Surgical Oncologist in private practice for the past 15 years in Bakersfield, CA. He graduated from the University of Sydney in Australia. He is a board certified General Surgeon & Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) . He has specialized in the field of Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami. He served as Chief of Surgery at the VA medical Center in Miami.

Since moving to Bakersfield in private practice , Dr. Irani was initially involved in the Surgery Residency program at Kern Medical Center & was appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Diego for a period of eight years.

Dr. Irani has built an excellent reputation in his practice of General / Oncologic Surgery in Bakersfield. He is the only trained Surgical Oncologist in Kern County – specializing in Breast & Colon Cancer. He has done additional training in Bariatric (Weight loss surgery) and is a member of the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF BARIATRIC SURGEONS.

Dr. Irani is the founder of BAKERSFIELD SURGICAL ASSOCIATES & also founder & director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at both San Joaquin Community Hospital & Mercy Hospitals since 2000. He is proficient at laparoscopic surgery and both programs offer Laparoscopic Roux Y Gastric Bypass and the LapBand procedures for weight loss. He has performed over 400 cases with excellent results.

He has served as Chief of Surgery twice at Mercy Hospital, once at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital & currently is Chief of Surgery at San Joaquin Community Hospital.
